AccuGraft is a hair transplant system that removes individual hair follicles from the patient’s head. The AccuGraft utilizes the FUE technique but is semi-automated, mechanically extracting hairs in order to harvest more follicles, in a shorter time, with less provider fatigue.
About the Procedure
Hair loss is a common occurrence in both men and women. Thinning hair, receding hairlines, and bald spots can develop temporarily due to factors such as anxiety or stress, or be brought on by genetic predispositions such as with male or female pattern hair loss. For those who are bothered by thinning hair and have a healthy, sufficient donor site, follicular unit extraction may be a good solution to restore fuller, voluminous hair. Follicular unit extraction, or FUE, is a method of hair transplantation used to relocate healthy hair follicles into balding areas of the head. Unlike FUT (follicular unit transplantation), which surgically removes a strip of hair from the patient’s head in order to harvest hair follicles, FUE individually dissects the hairs for a less invasive procedure. The FUE process can be all done by hand–from extraction, to recipient site creation, to transplantation–or semi-automatically. Semi-automized FUE techniques allow for a quicker procedure, with greater extraction numbers, and less surgeon fatigue. AccuGraft, like Neograft, is a semi-automatic FUE system. AccuGraft uses a pneumatically pressurized hand piece in order to accurately extract hair follicles. Prior to the procedure, the donor site will be shaved and injections of local anesthesia will be administered for optimal patient comfort. Once the patient is numbed, the procedure will begin. AccuGraft hand piece will extract heathy hairs from the patient, one follicle at a time, taking care to note the angle of projection when removing the hair. Follicles are vacuumed into the hand piece until the extraction process is complete. Next, the recipient site will be scored for transplanting. Each follicle will then be placed back into the head, restoring the appearance of fullness and volume.
